Voluntary (sunnah) acts of ablution:

Back to Chapter 2

1. Saying at the outset: Bismilla hir rahmanir rahim, In the name of God, the most gracious, the most merciful.

2. Cleaning and brushing the teeth.

3. Washing the hands three times.

4. Rinsing the mouth three times.

5. Cleansing the nose, by sniffing water and blowing it out three times.

6. Repeating each obligatory washing three times (but wiping the head only once).

7. Running water between one's fingers and toes.

8. Wiping the ears.

9. Economizing in the use of water (even if it is abundant).

10. Supplication during and after the ablution.

11. Praying two rak`as after completing ablution.

12. Close order in the process of washing. The sequence of prescribed washing should not be interrupted by acts unrelated to ablution.
