CHAPTER 6
VOLUNTARY PRAYERS - NAWAFIL
And keep up prayer at both ends of the day and during the early watches of the night, for good deeds drive away evil deeds. The Quran: 11:14
The voluntary nature of these prayers allows for some differences in their performance from obligatory prayers.
1. It is preferable that they are performed at one's home and not in the mosque.
2. They provide an opportunity for reciting as much of the Quran as one pleases.
3. A person may pray sitting even if there is no health reason, however "there is twice the reward in standing." He may perform part of the prayer standing and part sitting.
4. He may open the "Quran" and read directly from it.
5. They are performed singly and not in congregation (jama'ah) form (with some exceptions).
6. Missed voluntary prayers may not be made up for except Fajr sunna prayer and Witr prayer.
