Mission

The Islamic Center of Southern California (ICSC) is committed to providing quality service and guidance to all Muslims in performing the religious duties of an Islamic burial.

Services

ICSC is a full service funeral home (Lic.No.1693), with onsite mortuary. This state of the art facility meets all legal and Islamic requirements. The ICSC provides local burial services at Rose Hills Memorial Park and out of state or overseas shipments including:

All mortuary services;

Burial Preparation Room, mortuary for performance of Ghusl (washing and preparing the body for burial in accordance to Islamic guidelines);

Availability of burial plot (grave) on the Islamic Cemetery section at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier;

Janaza prayer at the grave site;

Burial Process

The ICSC will coordinate the entire burial process, which includes the following:

Transportation of the deceased from the place of death to the Burial Preparation Room at ICSC;

Arrangements for obtaining death certificate and burial permit;

Maintain the deceased overnight at ICSC, if necessary;

The ICSC provides specially trained volunteers to perform Ghusl;

No more than 4 persons are allowed in the washing room during Ghusl;

Transportation of the deceased from ICSC to the Islamic cemetery section at Rose Hills or any other cemetery for burial;

Burial plots (graves) are available in the Islamic cemetery section at Rose Hills for the cost of $1,500.00 per grave;

An ICSC representative will lead the Janaza prayer at the grave site;

During weekdays, burial can be done in about 48 hours, provided that all documentation is completed before noon. Rose Hills charges an extra burial fee for weekends burial;

At the Time of Need

Contact the Administrator at the ICSC at (213) 382-9200, between 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. After hours, leave a message on ext. # 43. You will be contacted immediately, please be prepared to give name, address, and phone number of location of the deceased.

Very Important
Ask the attending physician to sign the
death certificate as soon as possible
following the death. This is a very important document.

The estimated cost of burial and cemetery services is approximately $7,000.00 (as of January 2008), which include:

Grave at Rose Hills (ICSC section)

The casket (Plain unfinished pressed wood).

Mortuary services.

Cemetery services.

Transportation of the deceased from the place of death to ICSC, then to Rose Hills

Use of the Burial Preparation Room at ICSC.

Kafan (shroud) without any Quranic inscriptions.

Grave headstone (Georgia gray and Black color).

Out of State Burial/Overseas Shipment

ICSC will arrange to obtain all the legal documents required for out of state/overseas shipment of the human remains, such as death certificate, burial or shipment permit, certification from the embassy concerned and airline reservation

Tradition of Mourning

It is recommended that you offer Dua’a (supplication) on behalf of the deceased before burial. You are encouraged to place a few handfuls of earth over the casket at time of burial.

According to the tradition of prophet Mohammad (PBUH), the mourning period may not exceed three days. Out of respect, the head stone slab over the grave will not be inscribed with Quranic verses to avoid stepping over it.

The following are not part of
Islamic teachings:

Wailing and excessive emotional display

Wearing of black clothing

Displaying the deceased in an open coffin

Burying in an ornate casket

No object to be placed in the casket with the body

Exit Rose Hills Road - Turn right

Drive approximately 500 yards, Gate 9 is on the left

The cemetery is marked by a short marble column inscribed with Quranic Verses.
