Additional rules

1. It is permissible to talk while performing ablution.

2. One may be assisted by others in performing ablution.

3. Persons with abnormal conditions, such as prolonged menses, uncontrollable passage of gas or incontinence of urine are to perform ablution before each prayer and then pray, even if the problem is still occurring.

4. Wiping over the top of the socks, (sandals or foot bandages) is permitted instead of washing the feet. However, one must have put on the socks while in a state of purity. This is permitted for one day and one night if one is in his home town (resident) and for three days and three nights when travelling.4 If one removes the socks while in a state of purity, he has then to complete ablution by washing the feet.

5. In the case of surgical wounds, bandages and surgical casts on the arms or the feet, obviously one may not have been in a state of purity at the time of their application and wiping over them, is permitted for the duration of their use.
